Seeking Jesus, living life, and sharing things

ALONG THE WAY

Time Zones

We just returned from a trip to San Francisco and Oakland, California. We loved seeing the sites (Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Fisherman’s Warf…) and going to games (A’s, Raiders, and Giants). It was a wonderful vacation!

Since we live in Pennsylvania, it was a long flight, and we passed through several time zones. Thankfully, we adjusted pretty quickly to the three hour time difference. But throughout our visit to the west coast, we had to be careful when contacting people from home to make sure it wasn’t too late for them.

Time zones are a funny thing. When we were awakening, friends and family in PA were eating lunch. And they were sound asleep when we were getting ready for bed. It’s strange to think that all over our world, masses of people are at different hours in their day than we are, and some are on a different day altogether!

But there is One Who transcends time because He is not bound by it. In fact, He created it for us to provide order in our linear timeline: …And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. (Gen 1:5 ESV) He is referred to as the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (Rev 21:6 ESV), "who is and who was and who is to come” (Rev 1:8 ESV). The I Am (Ex 3:14, John 5:58) or Self-Existing One.

None of us can even add one hour to our lives (Matt 6:27) yet we are invited to personally know the Creator of the Universe. The God Who fashioned yet is in no way tied to or impacted by time, the very thing that continually affects and constrains each of us. Let’s seek, surrender to, and trust Him in everything.

Just something I’m wowed by along the way.
