A Fresh Start
We are on the verge of a new year. An opportunity to start fresh and move forward. The newness of what’s before us can be refreshing and exciting. We make resolutions and face the year ahead with hope that we will be or do better than in the previous twelve months. But can turning the page on a calendar make it happen? Unfortunately, I imagine we can all personally attest to the truth that it can’t.
But there is someone Who can. The One True God Who spoke the world into existence (Gen 1:3-31). Who formed the first man out of dust (Gen 2:7) and personally and intentionally knit each of us together in our mother’s womb (Ps 139:13). We just celebrated the greatest example of His love for us: sending His Son Jesus to be born in a manger, die on a cross, then rise again to pay the price for our sin. He offers us the gift salvation. When we receive it, II Corinthians 5:17 tells us what happens:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)
Do we really want to a fresh start? The only way to ensure real and lasting change is through Jesus. He saves our soul and grants us eternal life in heaven with Him. But our Lord doesn’t stop there! Take a look at II Peter 1:3:
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness…. (NIV)
